Reasons You Should Hire a Northport, NY Water Removal Professional

If your Suffolk County home has been affected by water damage as a result of a flood, a leak in your plumbing system, a septic overflow, or a damaged water heater; whatever the case may be, you might be thinking about handling the water extraction yourself. While there are a lot of projects that you can successfully do around the house on your own, some jobs are better left to the professionals. Water removal is one of those jobs. Before you grab a wet/dry vac and attempt removing water from the affected areas, here’s a look at some great reasons why you should forego the DIY approach and hire a professional Northport, NY water damage restoration pro instead.

An Effective Plan of Action

Though it might appear to be pretty simple and straightforward, water extraction is much more complex than it seems. Water seeps underneath surfaces and gets trapped in cracks and crevices, and it’s quickly absorbed by porous materials. The purpose of water removal is to mitigate more widespread damage, and in order to do that, you need to know where to look for the water and how to properly extract it. A reputable Northport, NY water damage restoration company will have the knowledge and experience that’s needed to form an effective plan of action and minimize the damaging effects of water.

The Right Tools and Equipment

Effective water removal requires more than just an effective plan of action; it also requires the right tools and equipment. A professional Northport, NY water damage restoration contractor will have access to the most advanced tools and equipment, like commercial-grade water extraction vacuums, powerful air movers, and efficient dehumidifier; tools and equipment that will far exceed anything you will be able to access yourself.

Better Results

When it comes to water removal, so-so results aren’t going to cut it; the results need to be outstanding, otherwise, it’s likely that the damage will continue to spread throughout your Suffolk County home and become more widespread. Because a professional Northport, NY water damage restoration company will devise the most effective plan of action, will use proven techniques and strategies, and will employ the most cutting-edge tools and equipment, they’ll be able to deliver the best results possible.

Cost Savings

Like a lot of Suffolk County homeowners, you might be under the impression that DIY water removal will cost less than hiring a pro. That’s a common misconception because in reality, doing the job yourself can actually cost you a lot more. If you damage your property or you fail to effectively remove all of the water, you may end up needing more costly repairs. A professional will develop the most effective plan of action and will use the most advanced tools and technologies to implement that plan, thereby truly preventing more widespread damage. Plus, if anything goes wrong, a reputable Northport, NY water damage restoration contractor will be fully insured and will cover the cost of additional repairs that may be needed. In the long run, you’ll spend less when you hire a pro.

Some information about Northport, NY

Northport is a historic maritime village on the north shore of Long Island, New York. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837. In 1894, in an effort to localize governance, the community incorporated as a village.

The original inhabitants of the area now known as Northport were the Matinecocks, one of 13 Native American tribes of Long Island. The Matinecocks called this land Opcathontyche, which meant ‘wading place creek’. After Dutch interest a few years earlier, the land was sold by Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks, to three Englishmen in 1656.

With land that was well suited for farming, the early settlers grazed cattle on pastures around the harbor. The area soon became known as Great Cow Harbour. (The nearby hamlet of was known as Little Cow Harbour.) The oldest house still standing in Northport, the Skidmore House on Main Street, was built in 1761. In 2009 the house was put up for sale, sparking the village to pass a historical preservation law.

Woodbine Avenue and Northport Harbor, circa 1900

In the early 19th century Great Cow Harbor was still a rural farming community. By the 1830s the village contained only eight dwellings. But a new industry of shipbuilding brought rapid change and growth. The village shifted away from its farming roots as shipbuilding became the community’s primary industry. By 1837 the village was being referred to as Northport.
